With three kilometres of white sand backed by dunes, the Quinta do Lago beach is only accessible by crossing a picturesque wooden bridge on the Ria Formosa.

In addition to the resident wildlife, hundreds of rare and endangered species of Quinta do Lago and many more flock here every year. About of 30000 birds make an annual trip to this beautiful coastline, among them: pink flamingos, kingfishers, storks, Gryphons, Blue Jays.
The two tracks of the Quinta do Lago offer visitors the opportunity to glimpse these rare birds on their long migration between Africa and Europe. With several areas reserved for Bird observatories and pictures identifying information and representation, the paths go through forests, freshwater lakes and salt marshes and serve to promote the understanding of the environmental importance of the local area.
More than eighteen hectares of Ria Formosa Natural Park lie within the bounds of Quinta do Lago. A huge maze of lagoons, channels, shoals and Islands. This protected nature reserve stretches for sixty kilometres along the coast.
It is one of the last unspoilt coastlines in Europe and was established as a nature reserve since 1987, having the status of "protected area" by UNESCO. The Ria Formosa stretches by the municipalities of Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António and covers a total area of approximately 18400 hectares.
Flora and Fauna at Ria Formosa are of vital importance as habitat for many species of waterfowl. Located on East Atlantic migratory route, these areas provide food and shelter for the birds on their long 30000 journey between Europe and Africa.
The lakes and marshes of the golf courses of Quinta do Lago coexist harmoniously and attract a large number of water birds, while the umbrella of pines is home to many species of upland.
